Can I use the BOSS DS-9 Distortion Pedal as a Pre-amp for a dynamic microphone into my PC?
I understand that the impedance of my dynamic microphone isn’t enough to connect directly to my soundcard on my PC for recording. So then how do I boost the signal level? I thought I could use a distortion pedal as a pre-amp but I don’t know the levels. Is there any other low-cost method for getting my sound into the computer?
the impedance mismatch is going to be the biggest problem here, far worse than the distortion that it will give you. you can buy those cheap behringer mic preamps for under $100 to get your signal to line leve. microphones never work properly in an unbalanced signal. you’ll need an input for XLR to get your balanced signal across clear. if you want better quality try a mackie. a good mixer from those guys isnt bad compared to the stuff they sound like. good luck
